Abstract
Imagine a future environment where a network of sophisticated sensors, protection, and repair systems will be integral to clothing, communications devices, vehicles, transportation systems, buildings, and the environment. These would form the basis for a distributed, adaptable, and resilient "helpful environment." This article is part of a special issue on The Future of AI.
