Although excellent maps on the 1-in. and 0.5-in. scale have been issued
by the geological survey, no descriptive account of the geology of south
eastern Kincardine -shire has been published. Some three years ago, at
the suggestion of Professor Geikie, I undertook an investigation
of the volcanic rocks of the district. During the course of the
research, however, several points of strat.srigraphical and structural interest were observed, the interpretation of which necessitated mapping the area on the 6 -in. scale. In the present paper I propose to discuss the stratigraphy of the palaeozoic rocks, and to
give a petrographical account of the volcanie rocks of Lower Old
Red Sandstone and Carboniferous age.
