Abstract
 
 
This thesis is submitted as a study. in Human Geography and in its title suggests two of the fundamental conceptions of the subject (1) that man is subject to the influence of environment and finds in nature conditions which help him in the satisfaction of his needs. (2) That man hirase1f is a geographical factor capable of altering natural conditions to suit his own needs.
