The BRE Centre for Fire Safety Engineering at the University of Edinburgh conducted a series of large-scale fire tests in a real high rise building in Dalmarnock, Glasgow. The experiments took place on July 25th & 26th, 2006 with the close collaboration of the Strathclyde Fire Brigade and other partners. These experiments attempted to create realistic scenario in which a wide range of modern fire safety engineering tools could be put to a test. Thus improving our understanding of how emergencies of this nature can be handled in a most effective manner. The Dalmarnock Tests comprise a set of fire experiments conducted in a real high-rise building in July 2006. The two main tests took place in identical flats, Test One allowing the fire to develop freely to post-flashover ...
  • Laboratory Experiments and their Applicability

Steinhaus, Thomas; Jahn, Wolfram (The University of Edinburgh, 2007-11-14)
In conjunction with the Dalmarnock Fire Tests a series of laboratory tests have been conducted at the BRE Centre for Fire Safety Engineering at the University of Edinburgh (UoE) in support of the large scale tests. These ...

This chapter presents an overview of the commercial equipment that was installed by Xtralis (formally Vision Fire & Security) to monitor and record data from the fire tests performed in Dalmarnock in July 2006 - as ...
  • Introduction to FireGrid

Welch, Stephen; Usmani, Asif; Upadhyay, Rochan; Berry, Dave; Potter, Stephen; Torero, Jose L (The University of Edinburgh, 2007-11-14)
FireGrid is an ambitious and innovative project, seeking to develop the technology to support a new way of managing emergency response in the modern built environment. Specific novel aspects include the integration of ...

Torero, Jose L; Carvel, Ricky O (The University of Edinburgh, 2007-11-14)
Given the current state of the art, the vibrancy of the profession and existing data from numerous large scale tests, why are new large scale experiments like the Dalmarnock Tests important or, indeed, even necessary?
