This Manifesto for Change was produced through a public engagement and knowledge exchange event held as part of the ESRC’s Festival of Social Sciences 2021. Through the event, we shared the findings of our research project ‘Understanding and Exploring LGBT+ youth suicide in Scotland’ with a wide range of policy maker, practitioners and community members. This research sought to better understand factors contributing to, and protecting LGBT+ young people from, suicide, as well as considering what would reduce LGBT+ suicide in the future. Through the event we were able to share the research findings, and consider the challenges to implementing the findings of the research. Through our discussion we explored findings specifically related to targeted LGBT+ suicide prevention efforts, as well as identifying the changes that would be possible and the connections that were necessary to make such changes. This report provides an overview of both the original research and the practical next steps for LGBT+ suicide prevention in practice.
