Bacteriology of chronic bronchitis during a combined clinical and laboratory trial 1957-1959

Abstract

Respiratory afflictions resembling chronic bronchitis have been known to man since the ancient days of Greece and Rome. There was, however, no clear differentiation between bronchitis and the other respiratory ailments such as pneumonia, pulmonary tuberculosis and asthma until the beginning of the nineteenth century, due to the lack of critical post mortem examinations (Oswald, 1958).
