Abstract

Marx’s theory of historical materialism offers a scientific account of historical change. At the same time Marx and Engels seem to be making certain value-judgments and moral claims about sets of production relations and modes of production that appear to conflict with the theory’s value-free nature. And, it is my main objective to show that the theory as such does not “allow” for the reasonable making of value-judgments, which can damage the theory’s scientific and value-free character.
