Do organisations in the UK have a legal right to implement Data Loss Prevention technology with respect to employee’s personal devices?

Abstract

There are two technology paradigms that have become predominant within the past few years, which are converging upon each other much like two huge cargo ships, “Data Loss Prevention” (DLP) and “Bring your own Device” (BYOD). Understanding the legal implications of such a convergence is important to ensure organisations don’t become exposed themselves to potential legal difficulties. Starting with a brief introduction to DLP and BYOD, explaining their history and what they are, this dissertation will continue with a more detailed analysis on why organisations choose to implement these technologies.
