Abstract

Losses from Newcastle disease, since its first recognition, are heavy and continue to torment the poultry industry in many countries all over the world. Much of this wastage is preventable and the future for Newcastle disease looks gloomy as many countries, Uganda included, prepare to fight it by training manpower in poultry breeding, diagnosis and epidemiology of poultry diseases. A brief review and assessment has been made of the literature about methods of entry and spread of Newcastle disease in poultry populations. The relationship between the epidemiology and effective control measure is also discussed. Practical proposals and recommendations for Uganda are made.
