Abstract
In this essay it is intended to give an outline of the experimental techniques involved in the study of the auto -immune process followed by a discussion of the theories and speculations concerning the underlying mechanisms in auto -immunity. Finally a survey of the clinical aspects of auto -immunity will be made.
