Abstract
The researches described in this thesis were carried out at the Royal Observatory, Edinburgh during the academic years 1949-1950. Part I resolves itself into an investigation of the hitherto unobserved ionized-helium series originating from the fifth quantum level whose presence was found in the spectra of Draper-tyIle 0e5 stars. As will be seen from the text, this work is closely linked with the investigations of the 0e5 stars carried out at this Observatory by Dr. Baker. Part II describes a spectrophotometric investigation of an unusual phenomenon - the "blue" Sun, which occurred in September 1950.
