Gastric Ulcer is one of the commonest diseases and at the same time it is one of the most difficult to treat satisfactorily. There are, it is true, some cases that respond to slight treatment, to the avoidance of coarse foods and to the administration of bismuth and other drugs, while many pat.i(r is learn to treat themselves by living for long periods on liquid or semi -solid foods. But this is unsatisfactory because such treatment at the best is merely palliative and, not only are patients with latent gastric ulcer disqualified from doing the best work, but they are living in imminent danger of their lives from a sudden haemorrhage or perforation.
