Abstract
THE history and antiquities, the fauna and flora of Deeside, have received fairly adequate attention : its solid geology has been mapped.' But little notice has been taken of its physical features except in their sthetic aspect. This paper is an attempt to deal with some of the more notable of these features from a strictly scientific standpoint.
I. THE PROBABLE AGE AND ORIGIN OF THE DEE VALLEY || II. GRADIENT OF THE RIVER BED || III. CAPTURE OF THE HEAD- WATERS OF THE RIVER BY TRIBUTARIES OF THE SPEY AND TAY || IV. RELATION BETWEEN THE COURSE OF THE RIVER AND ITS TRIBUTARIES AND GEOLOGICAL STRUCTURE . V. EFFECTS OF ICE ON THE PHYSICAL FEATURES OF THE VALLEY: I. ICE- ABRASION; 2. ICE- EROSION; 3. BOULDER -CLAY; 4. MORAINES; 5. KAMES; 6. OVERFLOW CHANNELS AND GLACIAL LAKES || VI. SPECIAL POINTS REGARDING TRIBUTARIES || VII. RIVER TERRACES || VIII. SCENIC EFFECTS DUE TO THE NATURE OF THE ROCKS
