This investigation is our attempt to find an answer to two main questions.
en
dc.description.abstract
(1) Is the acute scarletinal nephritis in childhood
or youth ever the beginning of a chronic nephrit
:is, which may manifest itself in later years?
And if it does, is it a frequent termination?
en
dc.description.abstract
(2) Does an acute scarletinal nephritis which appears
to have healed, leave any traces of organic
change, or functional impairment of the kidneys
or other organs, in particular the cardio
vascular system?
en
dc.description.abstract
Subsidiary questions arose in the course of the enquiry and are discussed.
en
dc.description.abstract
The problem having thus been defined, the
most practical method of approach at once presented
itself for consideration - as regards the kidneys,
how to exclude or confirm the presence of a gross
lesion known to have been present during the scarletinal nephritis, and how best to detect the earlier
stage of functional impairment.
